SSA Advocacy in National Healthcare Policy
The Swiss Society of Angiology (SSA) is committed to actively shaping national healthcare policy through expert contributions and position statements. Our primary goal is to represent the interests of Swiss Angiology while promoting high-quality, interdisciplinary, and patient-centred vascular care. By engaging in healthcare consultations and policy discussions, the SSA ensures that the voice of angiology is heard and that future regulations support optimal vascular treatment for patients across Switzerland.
Current Consultations
National Consultation on Highly Specialized Medicine (HSM): Vascular and Endovascular Aortic Procedures in Adults
The SSA strongly opposes the blanket classification of all EVAR procedures as Highly Specialized Medicine (HSM). These are established standard procedures in interdisciplinary vascular centres and must be assessed based on their complexity. Angiology, backed by the officially recognized Swiss Certificate in Interventional Angiology, must be equally involved in both planning and execution.

Zurich Hospital List 2023 Consultation: Revision of the "Vascular Medicine" Category (SPLG)
In its response to the Zurich Hospital List 2023 consultation regarding the revision of the "Vascular Medicine" category (SPLG), the SSA emphasizes the following key demands to ensure fair, effective, and patient-centred vascular care delivery:
- Equal recognition of the Interventional Angiology certificate in hospital planning
- Clear differentiation in service allocation and CHOP code assignments
- Support for minimum case volumes—but without unnecessary structural restrictions
- Opposition to the mandatory linkage of carotid procedures to stroke units
- Rejection of centralization unless medically justified
